Does anyone out there know??? Exercise = Hungry = Eat more???

Is this gonna kill my weight loss??  Or is it just my body telling me i really do need more calories if i am going to continue to do weights??

I am freaking out!! I have eaten twice what i normally eat the last 3 days — TWICE!!!!!

I still don’t eat breakfast, so i usually work out before i eat for the day (unless coffee with cream counts)  I tried eating b-fast last week ’cause i was trying to make an excuse for NOT working out yet….. I got horrible stomach cramps — so, i won’t make THAT mistake again.  If i just wait for a few hours before i eat, i feel fine, i just can’t eat right after getting up….. yeah, weird, i know.

ANYWAY……  so, yesterday…..normally, i would have eaten ONE of my homemade calzone (rectangle piece about 3inches X 5inches filled with vegies, thin slice of roast beef from deli, and cheese)  but instead i ate TWO for lunch….

THEN for supper (crock pot meal since we are at soccer practice late) I had mashed potatoes and meatloaf and mixed vegies…. Normally, i am ALL about portion control, just a 2×2 portion of potatoes, maybe 1×1 portion of meat and then 2×2 or more of vegies….  yesterday — TWICE that amount and i finished it all!!!! YIKES!!!!

So, my question……   Is this eating b/c of the up’d workout and i will be ok, or am i using my workout for an excuse to eat more?  Am i gonna wind up gaining weight back? Do you guys know??

I only need to shed a few more pounds but mostly was working on TONING — i want to look sexy for my sons’ weddings next year — it is what has kept me going to my gym…. I have been pretty faithful to workout ~30-45 mins a day (other than last weekend’s lapse) but it will kinda defeat my purpose if i just put back on the weight!  I am really freaking out!!

One day of extra eating has never worried me, i look at my WEEK’s portions and they usually even themselves out by the end…..  BUT this??!!!  my week’s calories are gonna be higher than normal!!

So, any suggestions, or input will be GREATLY appreciated!   (i keep finding myself YELLING…. sorry, just freaked!!!!  FREAKED!!!!! sorry….)

shhhhh, I’m listening for the phone! ;) You might put on some weight at first… not a bad thing. Weights do add muscle, causing an initial weight gain, but muscle burns more calories. That means you’re going to eventually start losing again, but you’ll be more toned. If you are counting calories you’ll notice the tracker does allow for more if your activity level is increased. It’s not ALL about the scales. Keep track of how your clothes fit. That is the real indicator. You’re going to look great at that wedding! :)

Hey girlie, you getting enough protein? Maybe you should up that a little in your diet… and fibre (just be sure to increase your water intake if you increase your fibre… the clogged up feeling if you dont isnt nice!).

I think once you’re eating healthy food, and you keep your calories under 2000 a day, then you should be fine. You’ll know in your weigh in, if you maintain or increase for 3 weeks in a row, then you may want to decrease your calories a little bit.

But if you’re genuinely hungry…. then eat. But if you’re hungry because you’re bored, tired, or feel like you’re entitled to eat more because of the workouts, then dont. Drink water instead. Figure out why you’re hungry, then think about if you really need the second portion.

Hi :) I’m a personal trainer so I believe I can be of some help to you ;)

First of all….when you don’t eat breakfast within the first hour of waking up…you actually slow down your metabolism for the day! If you’re not a breakfast eater…try even having a protein smoothy or slim fast in the morning just to kick your metabolism into gear.

As for eating…YES…you need to eat more when you workout to supply your muscles with energy so they don’t canabolize! 1lb of muscle burns an additional 50 cals a day sitting on your butt doing nothing ;) . With that said….you don’t want to lose muscle! Our bodies can only lose 2lbs of fat a week…any more weight loss then that and your either losing muscle or water. You don’t want it to be muscle!

The food journal here on buddy slim helps you with your calories. You enter your age, weight and activity level and it tells you what your calories are for a day. THEN….you’ll notice something that says -1500 (or whatever it is for you) and it recommends to be at -250 to -700. As you eat and enter in food the -1500 will go down You just keep eating untill at around -700 or so. As you exercise…you enter what you did and it automatically adjusts your calories again so you can make sure you’re eating enough OR not too much :) . It really takes the guess work out for you.

So…to sum up…YES YOU NEED EAT to support your workouts ;) Hope that was helpful!

but, if i SHOULD eat b-fast… why do i get stomach cramps when i do? i can’t even drink regular milk — if i drink chocolate milk, it seems ok, but then…. calories!!! ugh!!
ONLY time i can eat b-fast is when i am camping — i am UP, WALKNG to go pee, walking, working to fix the meal…. then i can eat…. grrrrrr!!

Well, those about summed up everything I was going to say… so I’ll just reiterate with… listen to you body, it knows, trust it.

They pretty much covered everything. If you want to try the smoothie thing you can make them with juice instead of milk.

Juice is a great idea for the smoothy :) You may be lactose intolerant if milk gives you cramps. If you’re not…it may just be as simple as getting your body used to eating breakfast :)

As long as you know its hunger, Id listen to your body. Take your time eating and maybe make sure to have enough protien and fiber. I think its a matter of your body needing more because of muscle.

I agree with Michelle, great comment girl. Yes, when I exercise I tend to eat more. I make it a goal to supply my body with the nutrient it needs to support my time at the gym. I increase my calorie intake on days I workout because it’s I get so hungry.

As Michelle noted, breakfast is so important. Even when I go to the gym for a 5:45am class, I would get up an hour before to eat a little something, take a quick nap then back up for class.
