Every day should be a new beginning

I have decided that we should always scrap yesterday’s failures and start each day new — yeah, ok, i know a lot of you have said this already…. but i finally got this light bulb in MY head….

But, i have question……

WHY???????

Why do i have a subscription to Fitness?   Why did i read it??   Why did i think i could do the routine??

Hello!!!! the title should have warned me….. i’m telling you, i am a little dim……

the title?    “That’s Intense!”

Yeah, i read the exercises and think, ” I can do this!  Just #3-#5 dummbells?? Ha, i’ll get my #15s thank you.”   uhhhhhh never mind…… hello, my new better friend, #5…..

Tomorrow i think i will die, BUT, on the good side, I DO NOT feel like eating chocolate chip cookies (Hubby made me make them yesterday — good ghirardelli chocolate and made-from-scratch cookies…. yummm, can almost talk myself into one, except i don’t think i can move from the chair right now….. saved by the chair!!!)

Thanks to all of you — if it weren’t for this site, i would have given up already, i mean, what is a little (lot) of flab?? who cares about shorts right now, it is still cold…..

Thank you for keeping me on track!          Now off to doing stuff……

Coming clean

K, so i don’t know how many of you have noticed, but my last couple of posts haven’t really been about weight loss, motivation, or anything this site is about….. I have been hiding behind words.

A friend of mine (Angie) is so good about staying on track, posting actual meaningful blogs, and admitting small defeats but still moving forward.

I have asked other friends “what are your goals this week?”  Yeah, i didn’t want to post any b/c then i would have to face up to my words, its easier to write boloney (bologna) and read and comment and not really DO anything on my end.

So, my goals for the week…..

1)  stop writing and reading ALL day and actually exercise every day — even if it is just my lunges.

2) lay off the chocolate cake…..  grrrrrrr  luckily the kids ate most of it yesterday….

3) PLAY a game with my kids

4) forgive my husband for going to school full-time and ruining our anniversary day that is coming in June  (that’s the hardest one, i think…..)

5) continue commenting on blogs in the morning — sending ya love!!!

6) buy lots of fresh fruit and vegies to munch

7) drink WATER!!!!

7 is enough for now, ok, here i go…….

as soon as i hit “publish” …….

and maybe read a few more blogs……

how else could i procrastinate???………

Answers

…. at least to some of your questions!

1) yes, i am old

2) yes, i really do have 9 kids

3) no, i don’t go absolutely bonkers, i kinda like them!!  Life is never boring, and each one has added so much joy to my little ole life (ok, OLD)

4)  irrigating — we live in the Rio Grande valley (south of Albuquerque, if you want to look at a map).  It is NOT the Mississippi — not even close!  we also do not get water from the sky very often.  Long ago, they discovered that if they dug ditches from the river, we could water land that would not normally get watered.  Called “flood irrigation” and you literally flood your land ~once a week.  by the next day, if it has been really dry, you just see wet dirt and some puddles in the low spots.  It has been really dry around here lately.

5) we live on a “mini-farm”  nothing like what they have in the midwest….. we have a grand total of 7 acres!! whoo hooo!!  anyway, we plant alfafa and pasture grass around here — alfafa is made into hay bales for those of you that don’t know.  We planted alfafa this year b/c our fields were wasted from too many years of pasture, the alfafa will put nutrients back into the ground — hmmmmm sounds like what i am trying to do with my body…..

6) canoeing — you only get to do it in our part of the river in the early spring, they were pushing the time limit — once the irrigating is in full swing, there is very little water left in the river, it’s all in ditches.  Once that happens, you wind up carrying the darn canoes over all the sandbars instead of riding in them….. not much fun, great exercise perhaps, but not much fun.

7) The Game….. if you rent this movie — DO NOT read the back!!!! just stick it in and watch without knowing too much about it.  Stars Michael Douglas and Sean Penn (1997) It is a “thriller” but not scary b/c i can’t stand scary movies…. Rated R but not exactly sure why…..   DON”T READ UP ON THIS MOVIE, just watch it

8) Jesus said, “I am THE way, THE truth, and THE life, no man comes to the Father but by me.  I go to prepare a place for you that where I am, there you may be also.”  John 14 — the answer to life….

9) have i exercised yet?  NO, trying to make excuses and type, type, type to put it off a few more minutes….

10) did i eat well yesterday?  does chocolate cake with fudge syrup and powdered sugar sound good??  it has eggs and milk in it!!  ok, back to the grind……

Any other questions, please feel free to ask……

And, thanks for putting up with me!!!!!!

Irrigating, canoeing, a job, and a movie

A long day, a longer post….  and no exercising **sigh**

We knew we had to water at 5 in the morning but still chose to stay up watching an old John Wayne movie — cute story… but didn’t get to bed until midnight.

Hubby got up at 4:30 to get dressed for the cold morning of irrigating and i snuggled deeper into the blankets, curled up in a tight ball.  It felt so good!  but, i couldn’t go back to sleep, i felt guilty that Dan had to do all the work and he was just as tired, if not more, than me! So, i got up and tried to take pictures of the water coming in — too dark yet.

Luckily I got dressed and found Dan — we had forgotten to clean out the inlets at our neighbor’s field (we use his field for the horses and replowed/disked/planted his field too –just forgot the water needs a way in.)   I grabbed a shovel and ran down the ditch to help dig out the dirt.  Finally, success!              Our field was watering so fast, it was wonderful and exciting.  It used to take us all day (upwards of 8 hours or so) to water and now with the field leveled and just seeded, it was only taking 1 1/2 hours!  Awesome!  it was so exciting we took pictures as the sun rose.  Our place looked like it was in the middle of a lake — cool!  Neighbor’s field also watered fairly fast and then it was time to make breakfast — eggs, hashbrowns, pancakes, home-made syrup, and coffee (none for me).  (store-bought hashbrowns but i forgot to buy syrup!)

Meanwhile, a friend called, “Does Dan still want to canoe down the river?”   Yes, he did.  We got everyone ready/pack a lunch (I can’t go in a canoe with the baby so i get to drive)  Let them out in Los Lunas and 3 1/2 hours later, pick them up in Belen — 10 miles of river canoeing — it is so much fun!   And, no, I didn’t get anything done while they were gone, i read emails, read/responded to posts and held a sweet baby girl — she was very needy since she woke up early with the barking dogs (they didn’t know what all the activity was about!)  she also didn’t have anyone to keep her occupied…..so, i fooled around.

After picking every one up, unloading all the gear and canoes, I ran into Los lunas to do a quick job and visit the great Wally-world.  Dan called me, “What time do i have music practice and will you get home in time for me to get there?”   Great!! now after slowly cruising around, i raced to get home so he could take off — only the 8 and 4 year olds at home, no one to babysit until i got there.

So, home, throw pizza’s in the oven — cause i don’t want to cook! (vegie pizza for me, i put on fresh)   and now time to relax and watch one of my all-time favorite movies “The Game”  you can only really watch it once and then it is ruined for you, but it is always one i recommend — haven’t seen it for over 10 yrs probably.

Church tomorrow — “Isn’t He good, isn’t He good, hasn’t He done all He said He would?…”  Thank you Jesus for giving us a great week!

yeah, i talk to cows

they never seem to answer though…..

I ran/walked 4 miles this evening with my hubby — his suggestion and i was so happy i went further than i thought i could!  i was so proud of myself.  Plus, we had fun talking — mostly about his last two days at school (i was too busy panting to talk much) BTW, if you are listening to an interesting story, the time flies by!!

So, the reason for my title?  we ran past a couple cows and they came running to the fence hoping we were there to feed them…. i talked to them, they just looked at me with their big brown eyes.  On the way back, they moooo’d at me so, i let them know that someone would surely be by soon to get them food.  I laughed and told Dan, “I know what the title of my next blog will be!”    Too bad, i am not hilarious like some of you, and made it a really good story…

Happy weekend every one!!!

GRRRR no more caffeine for me

…..so you may want to stay away from me for a few days, i WILL be grumpy.

I started noticing ridges on my fingernails, hmmmm never had those before, so research says that i am vitamin/mineral deficient — possibly zinc, B-vits.  One reason for this is (of course) bad eating habits and …… coffee with caffeine!  Apparently the caffeinated coffee binds to the vitamins/minerals and your body cannot absorb them.   I had done so well while pregnant, no coffee, no sodas — and then splurged a few times until i was hooked, not just one cup of joe in the AM but maybe 2-3, “Oh it is so cold, maybe another cup of coffee will warm me”

So, No coffee for me.  The real bummer is, i get up and make my wonderful hubby b-fast in the morning before he takes off to school — HE can have coffee!!  I have to smell it!

Poor me.  Another choice that must be made for the benefit of health — when you put it that way, it doesn’t sound so bad, i guess.  At least, that’s what i keep telling myself.

On another note, i didn’t get much exercise in yesterday — needy baby, cute baby, HAVE to hold her instead!!   Today i will attempt working triceps/shoulders — need to do better and push the limits a little more.

Strange thing…. after taking vit suppements, i am more hungry!  i was starting to lose that hunger feeling thing — i know from nutrition classes that lack of zinc in the body will cause you to not want to eat — anorexia; so now that i have zinc in my body again, i have to fight all those urges to eat anything i can find that is quick (i.e. junk)….. grrrrrrrr!

Thank you

There are so many people on this site that know such encouraging words to say to help you along.  Too often, i hide my true feelings and do not allow anyone to know how i am doing.  Thank you to all your support, it was awesome “putting myself out there” and being rewarded with kind, encouraging words.

I was really being silly, I guess.  I know my husband is always busy studying, but i wanted him to pay attention to me.  The reason i have joined a few sites is to get the support i need right now so that i don’t bother him as much with my neediness.  I felt sorry for myself anyway.  Thanks to all the wonderful friends out there, i was able to get on with my day.  And then my husband surprised me!!  I am the most blessed person alive!

I don’t know how those that have been diagnosed with depression do it.  You guys should be proud of yourselves — the fact that you still function at all and reach out to others is amazing.  I can’t handle one day, but i have a tiniest bit more understanding of how to pray for you.

I know that only with God’s help am i able to get out of my teensy “funks” and I know that He alone is probably able to help you.  My love to all of you.  Hang in there.

feeling lonely

i don’t know why i do this to myself. I set myself up for disappointment.  I imagine wonderful fairy story-like ideals and then wonder why people don’t make my life that way.  Only God can be all for us, other people may try their hardest, but i think we expect too much.

Just feeling a  little pity-party coming on — maybe a large pity-party but i’m the only one going…

I want to go eat chocolate fudge and curl up with a book, too many things to do today and i don’t feel like doing any of it, so here i sit reading and writing.

K, sorry, i am sounding way to depressed to do any good here, so i am gonna sign off and find something to cheer myself up with.

My running family

Grrrr.  My two brothers were in town and my sisters decided we should all go running with our dad early Sunday morning…… did I say EARLY?? who in the world runs EARLY on Sunday???? — my wonderful/horrible family.  So, i got suckered into it.  They made all sorts of false promises — James can’t run more than a mile, we run slow, it will be fun…. We ran/walked 2 1/2 miles in 26 minutes.   Today, i am dying.  I am sure of it.

Ok, it wasn’t really THAT bad, well not totally.  It was a lot of fun being with everyone together.  It was fun joking about how out of shape i am and having everyone feel sorry for me and the spurt of running at the end with my sister so we wouldn’t come in last was kinda fun — after I caught my breath.  Today, my legs are really sore.  YIPPEE!! no pain, no gain, right??!!

So, i realized a few things…. 1) I start wayyyy too many sentences with “so”.  2) the few times i have run/walked by myself, i have a really slow pace.  3) my family is evil  4) if i run more than once a month at a faster pace, i may actually see results. and 5) i dread the thought of running again, and wish i had someone to push me regularly.

My oldest son said that i need to do squats with the free (??) bar, not dumbbells or the machine.  Quads today need to be really working.  (caught myself starting that sentence with “so”….)   I am off to exercise.
